About us

A place where time, earth, and family come together to make wine
There are places where wine is more than just a product. Where it is language, history, pride, and identity. For us, that place is Rahovec—a region in southwestern Kosovo where wine has been produced for centuries. Here, in a small valley nestled between the hills and the light of the Carpathian Mountains, the story of our Kastrati family and Tradita began over 70 years ago.
What began as a sideline became a vocation over generations. In 2012, we decided to give this heritage a new home by building our own winery. Today, Tradita is a vibrant combination of tradition, craftsmanship, and the vision of a new generation of winemakers.

Tradita means: preserving heritage, shaping the future
The name of our winery stands not only for the past, but also for an attitude. For respect for ancient knowledge. For the conviction that sustainable viticulture begins with responsibility. And for the pursuit of creating wines that not only taste good, but also tell a story.
Every bottle that leaves our winery bears the traces of its origin: the mineral soil with fossil shells from the Triassic period. The grape varieties that have been growing here since Illyrian times. And the people who painstakingly select each grape by hand, always with an eye for quality and care.

Our family. Our foundation.
Tradita is a true family winery. Each generation contributes its perspective, and every hand counts. We have no management level and no anonymous production. We are in the vineyard ourselves. We bottle the wine. We taste it. And we share this place with everyone who is looking for more in wine than labels and numbers.
You can feel this closeness. In personal conversations. In honest advice. And above all, in the glass.

The terroir of Rahovec – A landscape with character

Our vineyards are located between 350 and 500 meters above sea level. The soils are characterized by calcareous rock and clay with a high mineral content. The air is clear, the summer days hot, and the nights cool. Perfect conditions for producing complex, balanced wines.
This is where our old grape varieties Prokupa and Vranac grow, powerful, distinctive grapes that defy the trend toward uniformity. They are the foundation of our work and the pride of the region.

Craftsmanship and dedication – our philosophy in the vineyard
We cultivate over twelve hectares of vineyards, 3.5 hectares of which we own. We tend the remaining vineyards in close collaboration with local winegrowers who share our passion for natural cultivation.
The work is done manually—from harvesting to selection. Because we believe that true quality cannot be industrialized. Our yields are deliberately low. We focus on biodiverse vegetation, no systemic pesticides, and careful soil management.

The wines
Our most famous grape variety is Prokupa, also known as “Illyrian grape.” It produces fiery red wines with aromas of sour cherry, wild berries, and a hint of herbal spice. Its tannins are present but elegant. The structure allows for long aging, both in the barrel and in the bottle.
Our wines ferment at controlled temperatures using natural yeasts. They are aged partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in French oak barrels. Each vintage is an expression of the balance between nature and man.
